Normally when you login on your client workstation you have to provide a Username Password and then select an Application. You can automate these steps by doing the following:
On your Windows desktop right-click on the Alert icon and select Properties
On the Shortcut tab go into the field labeled Target and go to the end of the current entry.
Add the following to the end of the line: /username:name /password:passwd /application:aep /host:server_name
(Note: there needs to be a space before each / )
where :
name is the username you want to log in with
passwd is the password for that username
aep is the name of the Application you are starting (typically aep – check with Client Care if you don’t know)
server_name is the name of your Alert server
If you omit the Application and Host entries the system will skip the Username/Password screen and take you directly to the Application list (e.g. Alert Demo)
If you omit the Username and Password entries the system will prompt for these and then take you directly to your selected application

Windows is trying to open files automatically
but then fails often saying it’s the Wrong File Type or an
Unrecognized File Type
Solution
Windows automatically opens files with a
program that is selected based on the file name extension. For example
files that end in .doc are opened with Word or some other word
processer. To change which program is used for a given file name
extension: Double click on My Computer Click on the View Option Click on
Folder Options Click on File Types. Find the current entry that you
want to change. Click on Edit to update the entry and click on OK to
save. If you aren’t sure what program you want Windows to use
highlight the entry for that file type and click on Remove. The next
time you try to open a file with that name extension Windows will ask
you what program you want to use.
